Yesterday, WordPress.com announced that it will deliver Google AdWord adverts into the posts and tags of its users blogs – unless they pay WordPress.com $30 a year NOT TO!
Steve Crudden said “It’s like downloading a FREE software program, which deliberately screws up your computer, and then being charged $30 by the company who ‘gave’ you the FREE software, to have it removed!”
So, if you are a kid with a blog or someone suffering under the current credit-crunch AND you don’t like the idea of Google slamming adverts all over your work – for products you have NO SAY OVER – you are screwed.

In one way this a kind of “black mail” pay or display Google AdSense ads in your blog.
For the same $30, it would be more profitable to self host your blog than paying to stay in the “fake” free version.
It’s really incredible. I assume a lot of WP users are trapped. If they’re not making any money (so not even $30 a year) with their blog – housewives, students, retired, etc. – they’ll have the choice between adsense not making them any money or leave to Blogger or any other still free solution.
It’s not very fair.
